SENCH

Arsen Sargsyan a. k. a. Sench was born in Yerevan, Armenia in 1961. He was accepted to Yerevan National Art Institute in 1978. The first groundbreaking Armenian Youth Design Exhibition in 1982, was organized by Sench and his classmates. It was a great success. Sench came up with an idea to make large plush toys that could be used as children’s furniture. One year later Sench was awarded first prize for the project in Moscow at a design competition for merchandise made for children.

In 1983 after graduating from a five-year program in Design and Art at Yerevan National Art Institute, Sench and his peers organized a sensational avant -garde exhibition. In addition to being a huge success, the event caused a great deal of controversy due to it's innovative nature. The youth of Armenia were delighted with the exhibition which included surrealistic paintings, abstract art, and pop-art works.
